Rewild Water

Time-series analysis exploring the relationship between precipitation events and water quality indicators in DC-area watersheds — how rainfall shapes turbidity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and discharge patterns over time.

What This Explores

Urban watersheds respond to rainfall in complex, delayed ways. This project aligns hourly precipitation data (NOAA/IEM) with 5-minute USGS water quality monitoring to reveal lag patterns, cross-correlations, and ecological signals hidden in the noise.

Data Pipeline

Precipitation

Hourly ASOS/IEM station data, aggregated from METAR reports.

Water Quality

USGS 5-minute continuous monitoring — turbidity, DO, pH, temperature, discharge.

Alignment

Resampling water quality to hourly resolution, inner-join with precipitation on datetime.

Analysis

Lag analysis, hourly cross-correlation, seasonal pattern decomposition.
